VELORA, Urban Cargo Bike
01The problem
Urban delivery runs are short and light, but the last-mile fleet runs on oversized fuel-based vans. Cargo bikes could fix that, but most are sold as kits, not designed for local streets, budgets, and maintenance. VELORA proves a pedal-powered cargo bike can be designed, not just assembled.
02What I did
Studied cargo-bike families and delivery loads; chose a longtail layout so the load sits low over the rear axle. Built a full SolidWorks assembly, frame, fork, wheels, drivetrain, cargo platform. Iterated the chassis for the best strength-to-weight with standard steel tubes, sized the platform for stable load distribution, checked rider ergonomics, and recommended a welded, jig-built production method.
03Result
A complete, dimensioned model ready for prototyping, chassis optimized, load platform stable, and a clear manufacturing method. If I did it again: run FEA on the weldment and test a physical prototype before finalizing tube sizes. The lesson: manufacturability and ergonomics constrain geometry from the first sketch, not at the end.
